Audience and institutions essay

                Hello everyone, today I will be talking about a wide range of topics that cover audience and institutions. Before I begin, what I mean by audience and institutions is that I will be talking about things like the distribution and consumption of a film, as well as the companies who make the films and how everything works between companies who worked together on a film. You will hear many different terms and each of these describe different things. I will also use examples of films when speaking on company work. I hope you enjoy.

                The first thing I will be talking about is media ownership. Over the years, the amount of media outlet companies has shrunk, and we now have 6 dominate conglomerates. These companies are: Disney, TimeWarner, Comcast, News Corp, and Sony. Each of these companies owns a variety of small companies called, subsidiaries. Cross media ownership, or cross media convergence is when one company owns different media outlets (music, films, radio, and tv). Sony is a prime example of this. Sony owns the PlayStation and the music production. Disney is a prime example of Ancillary revenue; this is a place where the merchandise of a company is sold. Disney makes more money selling their merchandise in their own park than they would selling it in stores. Which brings us to our next term synergy. Synergy is when two companies work together to sell a product. So, when you see Disney toys and merchandise in stores this is synergy. Our last term is Oligopoly, this is the term for a market that is dominated by small companies.

                Next, we’re going to talk about technology. Yes, I know we all know about technology and how it works, but this is how companies use technology to promote their works. This is also called, Proliferation of hardware and content. Many companies use music outlets to help promote, take Disney for example. They own Disney I heart radio; they use this app to promote their films through adds. While other companies will use technological convergence and go through Pandora radio to promote their films and productions. Companies use technology in more ways then one. They also use advanced technologies to make their films. Many companies use CGI. For example, Disney used photo realistic CGI to produce the new lion king film. Many action movies also use CGI animation. Companies use technology for both promotion and production. 

                We’re now going to speak about marketing. So marketing is how companies promote everything. This is going to slightly touch base on what we were talking about with technology. Companies will use a lot of technology and synergy to promote their films and products. Another way of marketing is film festivals, although these are big companies, film festivals do not limit them to promotion, they also use this as a time to scout new ideas and films. Marketing is a small combination of everything we’ve just previously talked about from selling merchandise in stores to using technology to promote.

                The last thing we’re going to speak on is distribution. Distribution is how the audience view the films. As a consumer there are many to ways to view a film, some examples being in a movie theater and watching at home. When watching at home, it is called in-home viewing. Companies determine how they release a film based off the data they collect of how consumers view films. Personally, for me, I like to watch films in the comfort of my home with my family. It not only saves money; my family and I get to be as loud as we want and laugh as much as we want. Companies often do an electronic sell through, meaning that through a digital format they sell the film for viewing. Netflix is an example of this, many companies use Netflix as a streaming platform. They also use the firestick as well. They also use video on demand and near video on demand. Youtube is an example of this, either during or after videos there are in programed videos for you to watch when you want that will immediately take you to the video.

                To conclude, the production, promotion, and consumption of a film is a long data filled process that companies use. Many companies work together to produce films and promote films. Thank you for your time.

In watching this extract, there could have been more done to create a little more suspense. They also could have shown a small bit of intervention before things began to get heated. We could already tell that there was a lack of trust and some anger. In my opinion his anger got the best of him too soon in the interrogation. He was already angry before even entering the room.

Once the scene starts, automatically you see it’s an interrogation room. Dark lighting and no windows. You hear the close of the door and the thud of papers hitting the table. There’s also suspenseful music playing lightly in the background. The music helps us understand that something bad is happening, but we don’t know what because we don’t know the background of the movie. They then begin to talk and negotiate terms, it’s here that we can see that he is already low on patients and that he doesn’t trust a word that she’s saying. Here, again we know she’s betrayed them in some way for some reason. So, he has right to not trust her, but at the same time she’s their best shot at stopping the bomb. He begins to yell in her face giving a clear sign that his patients is slipping away. It then jump cuts to his other colleagues having a nervous expression for what’s happening. This shows that they possibly had a more serious relationship prior to a work relationship. At this time, he also flipped over the table out of anger of time running out. She speaks to him calming which makes him sit down for a moment before jumping up out of anger and pushing her chair into the wall and then choking her. It was only then that his colleagues intervened. They are watching the whole thing take place, they can see his anger rising. It was at this point they should’ve intervened and have someone else conduct the interrogation.

To summarize my position, yes, the anger and crashing of objects builds the suspense and anger, but it also wastes valuable time. If they would’ve acted before the violence started and intervened, they might have gotten the information they needed quicker. Instead, they wasted time and waited to intervene which resulted in losing time and efforts to find the bomb.

Filming blog: can’t film

Hey guys!
So right now we’re in a very unique situation. All schools are closed and we are resulting to online school for the time being until we can return to school. This affects my film because of the fact many parents aren’t letting their children out the house. I’m resulting to using all of the siblings for the dancing scene. It will also be difficult to edit, I have a way to film and will go accordingly. This puts a huge set back on editing but I’m working as hard as I can to get this film done. Everyone please stay safe and healthy. I’ll try to get some filming content for you soon. Stay safe everyone!

Filming blog: can’t film

Hey guys!
So again, I couldn’t film. It is very hard for me to film throughout the week due to my extra curricular activities. But due to all after school activities being cancelled I will now be able to film during the week. I’m going to finally begin filming the dance scenes this weekend and begin editing on Wednesday. I will reshoot and re-edit in places that are needed, and will soon be able to turn in my film. Can’t wait for all of you to see my film, this film includes things I’m very passionate about. I hope you all will enjoy the finished product and will be patient with me. Filming and editing will pick up every fast in the coming weeks. Unfortunately I cannot film not edit over spring break but I will quickly get on it when we return to school.

Peer Review

Hey guys!
So we’ve done our peer reviews and the group that I got was group number 6. We were asked multiple questions about their film and what was there and what wasn’t. One of the things that I really liked about this groups film was, the storyline. The whole way the story was developed was very intriguing to me. The way they used the props depending on the scene and what was happening was great. They really put a lot of thought and time into the film and it shows. Each scene was almost perfect. I loved it. One thing I do suggest to this group is, in the opening scene instead of running along with the runner, use a car and slowly follow them, creating suspense. With their type of storyline suspense is key to what they do. So little things such as slowly following in a car, like a POV shot creates more and more suspense. Even more when the camera goes over the shoulder to read the text. But other than the building of suspense I love this film all and all.

Film blog: couldn’t film... again

During the week due to how late I get home, and my homework. I promise, I will have a filming blog for you on a Sunday and an editing blog for you on Monday. I’m going to film over the weekend, do a quick edit on Monday along with peer reviews. I’ll have that blog for you by Thursday. I’m so sorry for this you guys. Filming: Camera Died

Hey guys!
So unfortunately before I got a chance to film at least the beginning of my film, the camera died. I charged it over night so hopefully sometime during the week or this coming weekend I’ll have some interesting stories for you. So while the camera was charging, my sister, one of the actors in my film went over the the script and the lay out of how the beginning of the film would go. We will do the same again tonight. I’m hoping to get the beginning next to perfect. I’m still very excited for how this film will play out. I will go over the script with my other two sisters who are also actors in my film. I will do the same with my brother. Over the course of this week we will work on blocking and the script. I will do the same for my dancers, I’ll teach them the choreography just so they’re not completely new to it. So this week will be very eventful and busy for all. Hope to have some more exciting stories for you next time! Till then.

Filming Blog: Couldn't film

Hey Ya'll,
So over the weekend I didn't get a chance to film. On Friday I didn't attend school due to the day being used to honor the fallen angels from MSD. Due to not going on Friday I didn't a chance to check out a camera so that I could film. Since I didn't film over the weekend, I mainly thought about the process my film would undertake, and what would have to happen. I also worked on some of the choreography in my free time. I envisioned in my head what needed to be done to make this film work and become my idea. I've also been working outside to make sure the area where we'll be dancing and filming looks nice and ready for the film. I worked out details with my sisters and parents as well. I made sure that everything was set in stone so that when I do get a chance to film, everything will be ready and perfect. I've also been working with music and the music that will go into the film. Even though filming wasn't able to be part of my weekend, I still worked out the things that needed to be fixed for the film process to be able to run smoothly. This weekend or next I'm hoping to be able to film so that I can quickly get to editing so that I can be ready for our peer reviews.  The filming process shouldn't take more than and hour to an hour and a half. We'll take 2-3 takes of every scene to make sure that it's absolutely perfect. I'm excited for the film process because I get to combine the two things I love, dancing and being able to make my ideas come to life on a screen. The best part about it is I get to do it with the closest people in my life.  So the plan is to hopefully film in the next two weeks and get editing by at least next week Friday so that I have what I need for peer review. Tomorrow I'll check out a camera and converse with my actors to see what I'll be able to film for the weekend whether it's just the scenes that take place in the house or if it's just the dancing scenes for that day. So this is my plan, and I'm excited for how it'll all turn out.

So today's blog is my storyboard. A storyboard is a quick sketch and explanation of the sketch. Sometimes storyboard involve the types of angles and shots being used in the film. In my storyboard, there are 10 storyboard sheets. Each explain a quick breakdown of scenes along with a quick sketch of it. This storyboard breaks down each scene, and details the story line more and more. It gives a brief idea of the film, and the connection that all the actors share with each other. Title Research: Superman/Batman:Public Enemies

Okay, I promise you this is the last blog of the day and we are done!
so this next blog will be on a drama film, Superman/Batman:Public Enemies (from Art of the title). In this film there were 19 titles total, showing the company, movie, actors, etc.. The main images consist of major U.S. areas such as the White House and Statue of Liberty. It as well showed the colors of Batman and Superman. The connotation is tense and ready for anything considering the relationship they both share. The genre was reinforced through the suspenseful music used in the title sequence. The enigma was created throughout the whole sequence, the music had you anticipating what was going to happen. The way they appealed to a targeted audience was using the colors, music and DC characters. The way technology was used was throughout the editing process of using smooth transitions throughout the sequence.

Title Research: Saturday Night Fever

Yes, me again I promise I'll be done soon so we all can get back to our happy sleeping schedule.
So this blog I'll be watching the title sequence of Saturday Night Fever (from Art of the Title). In this sequence there were 19 titles. First of course being the company who produced the film, the actors, choreographers, costume design, producers, directors, and the director. The focus image point was the city (NYC), the whole sequence started off by showing the city directly before even showing one of the actors. This connotation was much harder to figure out but I'd say it's very relaxed and not in a rush to go anywhere. How the genre is reinforced is by the music and the subtle dancing through the streets. What created an enigma until the very end is why he was strolling through the streets of New York with a paint can. How this appealed to a target audience is the music and the titles that were written in red stage like lights. The way technology was is how many low angles there were, eye level angles, a POV, constant tracking, and over the shoulder shots.

Title Research: Salsa

Hey ya'll,
Yes, I'm back again. Don't worry I'll be done soon. This blog I will be answering the same questions about the title sequence of the film, salsa (from art of the title). In this title sequence there were 24 titles shown. The first being the company that produced the film. After there were credits given to actors, choreographers, costume designers, music producers, producers, and directors. In the images shown in this sequence the mainly prioritized theme was workers in a car garage dancing while working. The connotation of this was extremely positive and upbeat, everyone is dancing, laughing and having a good time. The way the genre is reinforced with this is everyone is constantly dancing, in everything they do, there's rhythm. The way there's an enigma is in the end we see all the workers getting yelled at but we don't know what happened, we can only imagine what actually happens. The way the appealed to a targeted audience is by using dance and happiness while working simultaneously. Technology was used well in this film because there were smooth transitions in the beginning, then there are many high and eye level angles. There are a few high angles and many tracking and over the shoulder shots so we could see what's going on.

Title Research: Nappilly Ever After

Hey ya'll,
So the first film I'm going to watch is a drama film called Nappily Ever after (Film from Art of the title). I will be answering questions given to me. In this title sequence there were 24 titles that appeared in the two minute window used. At first they gave that it was a Netflix original then they gave the production companie(s). They further began to give credits to actors, hair stylist, music directors, producers and directors. The images in the sequence are centered around hair care products because that's the theme of the movie, hair care/ styles. The genre of this film is a drama. The connotation is relatively positive, everyone included seems happy and hair is in every which way. The genre is reinforced by showing things that you would actually see in the film, using all the drama caused in the film as well. It establishes an enigma by showing the relaxer going into her hair to showing the scissors and the champagne. To ensure the film would a people to a target audience they used an animated title sequence and colorful titles. Technology was used effectively because the transitions of this were smooth all around. Because this was an animated title sequence there weren't any camera angles or movements.
