editing the commercial

Hey ya'll,
Today's blog is about the frustrating process we call editing! So last class we started dumping the footage into the new folder so that we can easily import it into pinnacle studios so that we can start editing quickly. This is really where the frustration began for the majority of the class. Pinnacle studios wouldn't log in no matter how many times our teacher put in the username and password! This quickly began to get frustrating for me because I like getting things done quickly without too many issues. After about 20 times of signing in, pinnacle finally opened. Thanks to my computer being as slow as it is, it took forever for me to clear what was already set on the screens so that we could begin our editing process. So now we have everything clear and we're ready to import our clips and start editing everything to make our commercial. Here's the kick, pinnacle studios wouldn't let us import anything. At this point I'm so upset to the point I wanted to punch the computer to see if that would get it to work, but of course I'm not allowed to do that unless I want to pay for it, which I don't so you see my dilemma. We're to the point where even our teacher is mad, because computer 1-12 don't even have pinnacle studios installed! And the computers that do aren't making our lives any easier, In all the years that Mrs. Marchionne has done this she's never had a problem with importing, exporting, with anything. So now she can argue that we physically cannot complete our assignments with computers that are not properly functioning. Now hopefully we are getting new computers soon so that we can edit our commercials without all the frustrations.
After Mrs. Marchionne called our office, she told us that we can't edit during that class because our computers are just giving us a hard time. She also told us to move our file that has all of our footage to a flash drive or even better on our google drives. This just in case something happens to our computers. After that those who still needed to film continued till we had our code yellow and red drills. Once our drills were done we had maybe 15-20 minutes left in class, some kids started working on their filming blogs others just found something to do like work for another class or some kids just passed time on their phones. Only about five of the computers were actually working, so today none of us are editing due to the fact that we're getting new computers and that all of our work would be gone once we get them. So today we blog, continue to film if we have to, and do other work for other classes if we have it. Some kids are even recording their voice overs, we are finding a lot of creative things to do while we wait until we can film. We find ways to make the best out of stressful situations, being teenagers we're in a lot of them. It helps to have a teacher who helps you with the things you need. She keeps you relaxed and feels your annoyance. In other words she's kind of like a mom lol. So eventually we'll get to edit and turn in our projects, but right now there's nothing that we can do, we don't have enough working computers for all of us to be able to edit and work in time for our deadline. Luckily our deadline is pushed back because of the problems with pinnacle studios. So moral of the story make due with what you have, and try to make the best out of a stressful situation. I'll see you guys next time!

Yours, Tay

Filming Blog

         Hey y’all! I’m back :)
So today we’re going to talk about my filming experience and pretty much what my role was in all of this. So when I got to class I quickly grabbed a sign out sheet so I could sign out the Camera and all the equipment needed. Once that was done, I went to get changed while my partner signed out our hall passes. We got to the track and began setting up, I was the first to begin filming the first take out our commercial. I took about three to four takes just so we have enough options to choose from when editing, then I began acting. Being an actress for a short period of time was actually kind of fun. Being able to just slip into a character was something I’ve always enjoyed and I guess something I’ve always been good at as well, do this was a fun experience for me... even if I was running. Once enough takes of me we’re taken we moved to the center of the soccer/ football field and began dancing. I did a quick recap of the dance before we actually started filming. This time around I was the first to be filmed, letting the cares of preying eyes slip away as the music began. During it all I felt myself become carefree as if I was on the stage performing a show. After doing two takes of me dancing I began to film my partner. Once we had finished all the takes we had walked to do our final scenes. So for this part we didn’t have a camera man we just set the camera up and pressed play, I had walked down the stairs meeting my parter and the bottom and we had walked to class together. In our final scene, we were at the beginning of the hallway and stood back to back showing our Nike gear. The whole filming experience was really fun for me. Being a theatre kid I’m constantly having to slip into different characters based on the scenes. In this commercial, with the first scene I was just a runner running the track. In the second I was a dancer, dancing her heart out being carefree of everyone around. And in the third I had returned to being a regular high school student, trying to stay out of people’s way in the halls. As a cameraman, knowing what looked right and what didn’t gave me a sense of control and leadership, like a director. Telling my partner when to slow down or speed up, do a certain move a certain way. It gave me a sense of directory, not authority. Authority would make it seem as if I felt like the boss, but I never felt that way. I felt like a director who has a strong relationship with her actors. Much like my theatre directors, I have a very strong bond with them and I feel as if I had gotten a small taste of what they experience all the time. Well that’s all for today, I hope you guys enjoyed my experience! See you.

Storyboard blog

       Hey ya'll! I'm back again,
So today is story boarding day, each slide of our story boards show a six second clip of the full movie or in this case commercial, our commercials are going to be 30 seconds long so we're going to be using five storyboard slides. In the first six seconds we are going to be using a low angle that flows into a tilt. This shot will show us tying up our laces and preparing to jog the track as a warm up. In this scene we'll also be using a jump cut, showing both actors. In scene number two, we will be doing a tracking shot of one actor jogging. With this shot you will be able to see both the right and left side of how the the actor is running. In this we will being using an "eye-level" camera angle. In clip three, you will see a multitude of jump cuts of both of our actors dancing to the chorus of "As If It's Your Last" by BlackPink. In the duration of this filming we will being at the track and the soccer field using natural lighting. In clip four, our actors will be walking down the halls of Fort Lauderdale, exhausted after a long morning of perfecting the dance. In our final clip they will sit down in their class, take out a snack and a Gatorade and take a long drink. We will use a fade out and show the NIKE sign.

Editing Class Blog

Hey Ya'll, How's your day been?

Well if you haven't guessed it, it's blog day! Today's is about editing a music video, commercial or even a movie. I was shocked how relatively easy it was, so first you have to look for pinnacle studios, you'll see either 17, 18, or 19. Before you do anything it's extremely important that you create a new folder on your desktop to put all your shots in because pinnacle studios won't read it. Once your folder is made put your SD card into the card reader and plug it into the computer, what we're about to do is called dumping, meaning we're taking everything from the SD card and putting it on the laptop. So once the card reader pops up you're going to go to a folder in the files called DCIM this is where all your footage is, it will be in order of date and time so make sure your camera has the correct date and time. If you can't find your footage you're going to go to private and search AVCAD and go to stream. Once you find your clips highlight them all and move them to your folder. As soon as everything is in your folder just remove the card reader from your lap top.
Now open pinnacle studios and make sure you’re on the editing screen. Go to file and click “new movie”, this is where you’re going to import all of you shots and clips. In pinnacle studios you’re going to go to ‘Desktop’ and click the plus sign. Once you find your folder click start import and begin building your film. Everything that’s on the bigger screen is called your raw footage, it’s basically the original shot you took, you’re going to drag the footage in whatever order you want to AV track 2; AV track 1 is meant for titles and track 3 is meant for music, voice overs and anything like that. If you want to cut a part from your scene, at the top of the AV tracks there are many little icons, you’re going to click on the one that looks like a razor blade to split the clip. Once the Clip is split, click on the part you don’t want make sure the orange- yellow box is around it and press the delete button. If you want you can right click the scene and you can speed it up, slow it down, or reverse it. If you want to get rid of the background audio in your raw footage you right click, press detach then click the detached audio make sure the orange box is around it and click delete.
If you want to add a title to your film, you’re going to click the T and it will pop up on the screen where your film is held, you can write in whatever your teacher asks you to label it or just put whatever you want. Once you’re ready to turn in your film, you’re going to save your movie and put it in your folder, when you’re done hit export make sure your film is under mPEG 4 and SV best quality, then click start export and titled your movie. Before you send your film in make sure to minimize pinnacle studios and open your film to watch for field first before sending it in to make sure it all runs smooth. And that’s how you edit any type of film your heart desires!

Research conventions and codes

Hey, back again with another blog!
Today we’re going to talk about what really goes into a commercial like NIKE. NIKE commercials are based around athleticism and comfort, their commercials mainly focus around the athletic department. NIKE also gives a sense of “style” with their Air Force ones and a variety of other brands. Now let’s crackdown the commercials. There’s many factors that are in play with a sports commercial, angles, shots, and movements are a big piece of it you need to use so your commercial is a replica of the sport you’re filming. Most common shots and angles used are called;

  • Wide shots
  • High angles
  • Close ups
  • Two person shots
  • Three person shots
  • Establishing shot
  • Long shots
Shots and angels aren’t the only factors however, movements are just as important as the angles you use. Movements are how you truly capture the athlete you’re filming. The movements so what is being done, whether they’re running the track or field, lifting a weight, fielding, catching or throwing a ball. All of these are filmed with camera movements, you don’t notice it but many of these movements are how you capture the true hard work of an athlete. The main camera movement used is a tracking shot,  following the subject that’s being videoed, getting every possible angle to show you the hard work.
So as you can see lots of time effort and editing goes into a commercial, it’s visually appealing to the audience it’s what draws them in and brings them to the store. It makes them want to buy your product, commercials are the most important part of a company.

That’s all for today guy! I’ll see you next time,
Yours, Taylor

Introductory

       Hey, I'm Taylor,
I'm a high school student taking multiple Cambridge classes this year. Whoever said high school would be like high school musical.. kindly shut up, high school isn't all bad though, it has its days where I have fun. Homecoming pep rallies are the best, we have senior versus junior dance offs, our dance team performs, our cheer squad and majorette group perform to the beats our amazing band plays. I have some pretty great friends too, they're always making me laugh. The one thing I look forward to most days is my theater class, we're doing Little Shops Of Horrors this fall and I'm really excited for it, the cast is so much fun to spend time with and we're all really relaxed but we get our work done. One of my hopes is to get a scholarship for theater so these next few years I'm gonna work harder than ever. Theater helps combine two of my favorite things; singing and dancing, and I guess I'm a good actress. Feeling my heart race and the adrenaline before I perform is kind of what I live for... who knows I might just end up following my cousin, of course he's been doing this much longer than I have. He's kind of my idol, since I was little I looked up to him but he's also like my best friend, I can't wait to see him in January.. I haven't seen him since my grandma passed.
I never imagined myself blogging about who I am so I'm kind of just ranting here, I'm a former softball player so team work isn't foreign to me but a lot of times I feel like I'm carrying a huge weight on my shoulders, I don't know what it is though yet, I think I'll find out soon. A lot has happened this week, but what would my life be if it didn't have a little crazy?  There are days where I truthfully don't want to leave the comfort of my bed but that's every teenager. I want to be able to have fun for a night and not have consequences but, everything comes with a consequence, whether it's good or bad is your choice, I typically stay home watching my little brother... I'd be lying if I said he isn't one of the best things I have in my life. He's only nine but understands so much in the world already, I wonder sometimes what I did right to get him but at this point who cares? He's the best brother in the world (don't tell my older brothers I said that lol).
This is the last few things I'm gonna say because you're probably bored of hearing about my life. There's a lot of negativity in the world and it's really just become normal to us, I don't understand how we let hate get the best of us. Why do we do this to each other? Why do females turn their back on each other rather than help and support each other like we're supposed to do? Why has violence become the way of fixing a problem instead of talking it out? We're constantly at  war, whether  it be over seas or in our own homes.. war is consent. But do we even know what we're fighting for anymore? Yes I'm 15 but I'm not stupid, I see what the world's becoming and it needs to change.. sorry if it got too deep just food for thought. It's time for me to go now.

Audience and institutions essay

Hello everyone, today I will be talking about a wide range of topics that cover audience and institutions. Before I begin,...
