Filming Blog

Good Morning loves!
So I don't a fun filming story for you because I cannot film this weekend. I can't film because my family took a trip to North Carolina, my sister is committed to the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. We also have family up here so it's good to be with them. So today is kind of a work and chill day with the family, we're all doing work and spending time together. Tomorrow we're going to see the campus, I'm excited because it will be my first time seeing the campus and it's even more exciting because UNCC very well could be my future home. I've heard great things about their different programs and it excites me to see what they have to offer. Monday night there's a softball camp which my sisters will attend and get coaching from the UNCC coaching staff. In between the time we have we're pretty much going to spend it together as a family, like an early thanksgiving. Being able to travel for fun and spend time with family is rare for us, so we take every minute we can. Tuesday is when we go home and prepare to make thanksgiving food. We will begin our filming process on Wednesday 11/27. And I promise that either Wednesday or Thursday night I will have a fun blog for you about our filming process and how much fun we had at the beach and getting ice cream. That's all I have for you today my loves.  Have a great day!

Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours,
Tay <3

Music Video Storyboard Blog

Hello my loves! It's me again!
So this blog is for our storyboard. A storyboard is like an outline of how the ideal filming process will go, each slide is six seconds of the music video. So for our first slide, we're coming out of the house and we'll throw the ball to someone behind the camera. This shot will be a close up and a zoom in so it will look like we're throwing it at the camera. Then we will do a jump cut to someone catching the ball at the beach and serving the ball in a volleyball game. After the game we'll all come in for drinks.  We will begin to isolate the two main actors who will be the "couple" they will be having a conversation but it will be inaudible. This shot won't be a full close up because we still want to make it known that everyone else is still there. The two will begin to walk down the beach while we do a tracking shot. They'll stop and the male actor will caress the females cheek and slowly begin to lean. When the line "We can dance until we die" everyone else will come in and interrupt them. This will go from a close up to a wide shot. We'll all discuss about going to get ice cream, and begin the walk (or drive if needed) to the ice cream shop. We all enter the ice cream happy and laughing. This will be an establishing shot. The girls go get the table and the boys will go get the ice cream while the girls laugh and talk. This shot will just be a normal eye level shot. When the boys come back we all have a conversation about the most random things and we're all smiling. This will as well be an eye level shot. We head back to the cars and drop everything in the car and we all decide to go to the pet store. This will be another tracking shot. When we get the all the girls start to admire the puppies. This will be and establishing shot. We find an adorable puppy and have one of the guys take a picture of all of us. This shot will be a wide shot. In the end, the two leads will be walking back to their cars together and in the end the male will stop the female and we'll do a fade out with their foreheads pressed together. This final shot will be a close up.

Much love, Tay!

Now we're going to talk about where we're going to film and what our back  up location is. We've decided to film at Lauderdale- By- The- sea (Fort Lauderdale beach), it's the ideal area for the scene of our song. We are going to ask permission to make sure we are allowed to film there. Our back up  location is, my backyard because I have a pool. Now it's time to talk health and safety. Our ride to the beach is our parents. They will be there to take us to and from our set location to ensure our safety. There will also be lifeguards there to ensure that we will be safe. For our props we will be bringing, volleyballs, beach balls, footballs etc. The idea of filming at the beach is for us to have fun and capture it on camera. Now my favorite part of filming, costumes! For costumes Sage will be wearing her Neon Orange swimsuit and a white cover up, she will also bring clothes such as shorts and a hoodie. I will be wearing a white bathing suit top with acid washed cut off jean shorts, I will also be bringing an over sized sweater. Jeffery will be wearing swimming trunks and a white wife beater, he will also be bringing a jacket.

Music Video Research Blog

Hey ya'll,
I'm back with another blog. We just finished our commercial project, the project was fun to do and in my opinion a great basis project. We could get used to having the equipment that we will be using for the year. We had a few minor challenges considering it was the first time we'd done something like this. We also learned how to use new technologies like pinnacle studios. Pinnacle studios is an editing platform that was really easy to use and made the editing process much easier. We learned a lot of useful production skills. I'm very excited to say that we're finally starting on our music video project!
Our song is Teenage dream by Katy Perry, it's from the pop genre. During our group discussion we had been choosing between Nights Like This by Kehlani and Ty Dolla Sign. We ended up choosing Teenage Dream  because as teenagers we can relate better to it, it's also a great song to get some friends together to drive around and go to the beach with. It'll be kind of like a vlog experience, but of course it's a music video. This song is saying how we feel like we're in a teenage dream being with our friends and the person we like or are in a relationship with. This song is a good song for a music video to because the song isn't too hype and it isn't too slow either. Songs like these make it relatively easy to plan a great music video. The genre of pop is a very unique drama, It has a variety of variations within it. Pop can be almost anything, there's country pop, Christian (gospel) pop, and so many others. Music videos within this genre are often circled around the theme of the song but every now and then you'll have a few that won't make sense to what the song is really saying. The conventions typically used in this genre are mainly eye level shots, Pans, maybe a tilt every now and then, wide shots, and a few low angle shots. The sound was mainly the song. There are  times they'll fade the song out and play the sounds of the event taking place. As for editing, many times depending on the song they will edit it to give a vintage type of look. Sometimes they will incorporate different types of lighting such as black and white. The costumes usually consist of everyday attire such as crop tops, leggings, jeans, hoodies etc. The costumes are things that people can use in their everyday lives. The lighting it’s typically natural. They often go outdoors to capture the natural light given. The acting is typically very natural. The only time it’s not is if they’re using an explicit scene, but even then it can seem very real. In most cases the make up can be kind of extra to showcase their features. But once in a while they will go natural or just use slight stage make up so they don’t look washed out. The props are things you find anywhere you go. They use standard props, purses, make up bags, etc. They setting is typical. They can use remote areas or even populated areas like the beach.

Editing Blog

Hey guys! I'm back again with another blog.
So we finally got to begin editing, editing is actually more fun than I thought it would be. In the beginning it was semi frustrating because it was kind of determining what would look good in the commercial. But once you got started it went so quickly, the way everything came together was really cool to see. However you always had to watch closely cause there were a lot of parts that had to be cut and added and flipped and jump cuts. In other words,  a lot had to go into editing. As much work went into editing it was honestly really fun. Editing is like watching your visions for a show come to life, it's the most satisfying feeling when everything comes together. It was really frustrating the first day we really started editing because I had to download my footage from my google drive and transfer it to my desktop, the only problem was it moved in a zip folder. So I had to unzip the folder and transfer them to a new folder, but it was taking so long. It took almost the whole class before I decided to redo the transfer and it worked so much faster. So next class I quickly got a laptop and got to work, I had looked at the footage a little in the previous class so I already had an idea of what I wanted to do regarding the order of the footage.
So after somewhat getting everything in order I watched how it looked and began to make my changes and cutting what needed to be cut to make sure that my commercial was the proper length. It was very stressful because there was a lot of footage that had to be put into a 30 second commercial. I would be lying if I said there weren't times where I just wanted to scream and say "okay I'm done" because it was so stressful and slightly aggravating. However, even with all the frustration I enjoyed making my visions come to life. Doing this kind of makes me excited for the music video project because I now have a broader "canvas" if that's what you want to call it. I can ask my family to be actors, and go to different places. Editing in itself is really fun though.
So basically editing is an extremely long process that takes so much patience. It is definitely frustrating when you're working with someone because a lot of the time you guys have very different visions and end up not seeing eye to eye with the film. I even had the problem, we weren't seeing eye to eye for the ending of our film. It was already becoming longer than it had to be and she wanted to continue to add things but I told her that we can't do that because it would make things too long. But eventually we ended up understanding what each other were trying to say, and worked around the issue. After all the editing work was done, we added the music that went with it and it worked out perfectly. It was actually kind of fun to do. But in the end we got it all done in one day and I really felt like my life was together lol. See you guys next time.
