Genre Research: Honey: Rise up and dance

Hey ya'll so these next few blogs are gonna be about films that I'm watching related to my genres. The first one I watched was Honey: Rise up and dance. So I'm going to kind of tell you about the types of things that I saw while watching this film. So first I saw many CAMS. When it first starts it you get a pan establishing shot, showing the city then you get an establishing sot that shows you Skyler's(the main character) home. As Skyler is dancing her mom comes into her room and we get multiple POV and over the shoulder shots. As they move through the house we also get close ups and two person shots. When Skyler goes to Pulsar, a crew her sister dances will you see high angles, there is diegetic dialogue as Skyler and her sister as well as their  friends all interact together, you also get a three person shot. Once Skyler leaves, Pulsar begins to rehearse and you get non- diegetic sound due to the music playing. In the studio there is natural lighting coming through the windows. When we cut to Skyler's place of work at the roller rink, there is a lot of colorful and artificial lighting, it is the same when the crew go to the club together and when Skyler and Tyrell (the male lead) go to an underground dance club together. Through out the film there is a lot of casual wear, Skyler wears a uniform at work, a lot of athletic wear and a lot of tight clothing and sweat pants and jackets/ hoodies. Throughout the film there is always a considerable amount of skin showing but not so much that it's inappropriate. During rehearsals dancers will often wear kneepads. A lot of the scenes are at the studio, Skyler's home, or Tyrell's dance studio. Men often wore tank tops and sweatpants. The make up was fairly natural aside from some dark shaded lip stick. In Tyrell's studio there are fairy lights covering the dance floor, along with graffiti all along the walls and some benches in the studio. A lot fo what I liked in this film was how it was constantly changing in setting, they never stayed in one place for too long but it didn't seem crazy like jumping from one place to the next. There was also a good amount of drama throughout the film. Especially between Skyler's boyfriend Luke and Tyrell. What I disliked is we never really saw too much dancing but we saw enough to understand that they were preparing to compete and were pushing to win.
That's all for this blog, see you soon
